Question #4:

I made some shrimp Bisque the other day?

Ok, the recipe called for some shrimp.

I figured using Prawns would be a bad idea, considering the size of prawns. So i wound up buying a bag of pre-cooked baby shrimp. I thought it said shelled and de-veined.

When i opened then up, they were shelled, but all of them had the vein. I know whats in the vein, so i sat there with a knife cleaning all of these shrimp, which was not fun. But regardless, i did it.

Now my question is, why would they cook them without removing the vein. I'm not going to, but is it safe to eat them with the vein intact? The soup didnt come out very well, the shrimp were just bland and not very tasty. I think next time, i'd buy Prawns or something i can buy fresh instead of pre-cooked and flash frozen.

Question #14:

What is a good and relatively healthy way to sweeten diabetic-friendly baked goods?

I am going to trying to bake some vegan, diabetic friendly carob-chip cookies for a library event, and am not sure about what sweetener to use. I have heard splenda can work well, but that it is not necessarily safe for consumption. I have also heard that lowering the amount of sugar works, and of course will be doing that, though I do not know how well that will work in my gf recipes. Normally I use maple syrup, honey, and am thinking of trying agave nectar.

If you are diabetic or bake food for people who are, your advice would be much appreciated.
Miz Lamb, have you ever eaten gluten free baked goods? GF food is often positively disgusting, gritty and full of unfortunately unforgettable flavors. Hence why I also don't want to subject anyone else with diet restrictions to really bad food if I can help it. I was asking here because I was under a time-restriction to have a list of ingredients made, and I figured if I couldn't find what I needed on my own, I'd come here. Fail on the snark. But thank you for the information about carbs and a more well-rounded approach. I'll keep that in mind.

Question #16:

Bad eating -- sneaky tricks?

My 21 year old boyfriend hates vegetables and will eat fruit occasionally but he says their "texture" makes him sick.

All he eats is breads and meats (hotdogs, hamburger helper, pizza) What can I do? I am scared that this will affect his health and even though he takes complete daily vitamins I'm worried. I want him to be around for a long time and not have to worry bout health concerns.

What can I do? Please help. I need some sneaky recipes or something that can get him the vegetables/fruit, fiber, and nutrients that are needed to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Ps- he just has bad eating, he gets regular exercise at gyms.
